KRABI IN BRIEF
Krabi, on southern Thailand’s west coast, is a province characterised by sheer limestone peaks, mangrove forests and many idyllic tropical islands and beaches.
Main attractions include mountain and city temples, hot springs in the forest, a wildlife sanctuary, sea caves and exotic marine life, white sandy beaches, limestone cliffs that attract rock climbers from around the world and national marine parks including the world famous Phi Phi Islands. More often than not, sunsets are a marvellous show in Krabi.
“Krabi” for most visitors is Ao Nang, a seaside village which houses several hotels, bars, restaurants, shops and facilities catering to any taste and wallet. Bordering Ao Nang is Noppharat Thara beach, a favourite among locals for their family weekend picnics. The nearby islands (Poda, Chicken, Hong, Paradise etc…) and the secluded beaches of Phra Nang and Railay can be reached by a short boat-trip.
Krabi Town, bordering the Krabi River, also provides plenty of shopping, sightseeing and dining opportunities: it hosts the Walking Street market (Friday-Sunday from 5.00 – 10.00 pm) and the Chao Fah Pier night market (daily from 5.00 pm – 12.30 am), a few malls, a lovely promenade on the river.
